Welcome to the Zine Club

Welcome to the Sheridan Zine Club! Here you can ask questions, learn from others in the zine scene and work on your projects during our club meetings :) Once a year we will be producing a club zine. Our zine will follow all the steps a public zine would in order to give contributors an accurate experience.

Remember to include your email when you apply to join the club so we can send the discord link to you!

Application Guidelines

Portfolio can be hosted on any site, though we recommend a Google Drive folder. If using a different hosting site or page, please make sure it only features the relevant portfolio pieces (i.e. not a link to your whole instagram).
Make sure link sharing is on if using Google Drive files, otherwise we cannot see your application! Test your link in an incognito tab to make sure it is viewable!
As with all portfolios, include the pieces that you feel best represent your illustrative skills. Quantity is not better than quality, as long as you meet the minimum required art pieces.
- Include a minimum of 5 completed pieces in your portfolio (a good range is 5-10)
- All portfolio pieces should be finished, no WIPs or sketches
- At least one piece should include a background/environment
- A piece related to the zine theme is NOT required
We will be evaluating structure, colour, and finish quality. All styles and visual mediums are allowed.

faq

What is a zine?
The word zine can mean various things. In our case it is a limited-run, self-published book featuring artwork from various illustrators.
What do we do in on-campus meetings?
On-campus meetings are dedicated time for members to work on zine projects. This can be the club zine, personal zines, outside public zines, or any zine-related work. We hope to create a supportive community where we can chat and ask questions related to the zine scene.
Will there be special events?
Yes! We plan to have fun events such as movie nights, game nights, art telephone etc.
What is the club zine about?
The possible themes will be announced and open to vote on October 14th.
What is the zine format?
The zine will be A5, perfect bound, physical only.
How many contributors will be accepted?
Due to page and budget limits, around 35 contributors (with some wiggle room) will be accepted to the club zine. This will be an art-only zine. Other club members are welcome to participate in meetings, hang out in the servers and attend events!
How will contributors be compensated?
Contributors will receive a free physical zine (or digital, if preferred). Any further profits from the zine will be used to fund future club projects.
